Special Educational Needs (SEND)

It is our duty as Early Years providers to have arrangements in place that enable us to both identify and support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)  and  encourage a culture within our settings that promotes the equality of opportunity for all children in our care.

Jackanory offers courses that strongly follow the SEN Code of Practice, to support setting Special Needs Coordinators (SENCos) to fulfil their role in supporting the setting,by enabling them to:

  • provide training and support to other practitioners in their setting to make certain that they understand their responsibilities towards children with (SEND) and enables them to understand the setting's approach to identifying children with a SEND and to meeting the needs of those children.

  • have the knowledge and confidence to work in partnership with parents ensuring that they closely involve them in their child's education and support; making sure that the parents have a voice and are listened toand that their knowledge of their child informs the plans and actions that the setting take.

  • work with other professionals outside the setting.
