Speech and Language UK Courses

Communication is the most fundamental life skill for children and young people. Their ability to learn and to develop friendships depends upon it, but many face an uphill struggle. Almost 10% of all children and young people in the UK – more than 1.4 million - have speech, language and communications needs (SLCN).

The challenge is even greater in deprived areas, where more than 50% of children have delayed language. A lack of knowledge and resources means that too many children and young people with SLCN don’t receive enough appropriate support. This affects their educational outcomes, their employability and their health and wellbeing.

Speech and Language UK,  the children’s communication charity, provides training to practitioners that equips them to support children suffering with delayed speech and language and have  licensees who have already delivered training to practitioners in hundreds of schools and settings around the country. Speech and Language UK also works with many local authorities with the aim to narrow the gap between these children and their peers.

As licensed Speech and Language UK trainers we want a world where all children have the communication skills they need to fulfil their potential. We’re working towards this vision by supporting early years and school professionals - those people who have the influence and contact with early years children and their families - through training, support and information.

Our courses are for early year's practitioners who are interested in supporting children's speech, language and communication development. They will give you an understanding of how language typically develops in young children and offers opportunities to delve into factors that have strong effects on the development of children's speech, language and communication.

Additionally our Working with Parents training will examine the crucial role of parents and will provide you with tools, ideas and strategies to work with parents when you return to your setting
